Location

Also during the beautiful spring days you can enjoy, relax and visit all kinds of events in Hollands most populair seaside resort. Scheveningen has a pleasant boulevard and a myriad of attractions and museums. These include the Casino, the Circus Theater, a mega cinema, the renovated peer and a shopping mall. Scheveningen has it all!

The sun, surf and sand are naturally the top three attractions in Scheveningen. You can wander the 4 kilometre long beach from one beach pavilion to the next. Each has its own style and character. This wide variety is what makes Scheveningen beach so much fun and so exciting. The Zuiderstrand (southern beach) has been hit by surfing fever and the Noorderstrand (northern beach) has trendy beach pavilions where kite surfing is popular.

More information tourist information about Scheveningen (in English and Deutsch) can be found at ; http://www.scheveningen.nl

The location of the Eurocup is Scheveningen, the actual location of the competition is the beach. But the beach is long, and the competition field will be on three different parts on the three days. Please see the map for the location on each day. The locations are about two kilometres from each other.

The location for Saturday and Sunday can change if the beach will be very crowded with people because of the nice weather or if the wind comes from a really ‘wrong’ direction (in this case North East to South East).

Parking

There are free parking spaces near the harbour, please notice the map for the right place. But for most places you need to pay!! Take care because the fee is 47 euros and the police is very strict.
Parking near the peer is always paid parking. The best place is one of the big parking lots; see the map for the locations, simply follow the signs. Parking cost about 12 euros each day.

Public transport

All competitors and spectators travelling and staying with the competitors will receive a free public transport ticket in the city of Den Hague, this includes also Scheveningen. (About 15 minutes by tram). See the map for the tram stops closest to each location. More public transport information will follow.

Rules and regulations on the beach

Scheveningen beach is one of the most crowded beaches in Holland. This also means that there are a lot of rules. Officially kite flying is forbidden on the beach, but the police might allow it outside summer season and on the festival days. Buggies and mountain boards are really forbidden.

The beach is also very commercial, this means that every one has to pay (a lot) for every commercial display. This also means that it is not allowed by any one just to place a commercial display. Please notice that you should not put more than one banner with your sponsor name on it. We can explain that as a team banner.

When the weather is good actually thousands of people will go to the beach. It could be a real problem to keep the competition fields free. We might have to ask the competitors to help the organisation to keep the competition field free of the beach babes.

The beach at Scheveningen

The beach of Scheveningen has a characteristic quality. The size and shape of the beach is of course influenced by the tide. This means that we can only fly competition when the tide is low. The part of the beach we can use is about 120 metres with low tide, at the top of high tide the beach is only 40 metres.

This also means that the beach is divided in a soft sand beach (usually dry) and a hard sand beach (only dry with low tide). This might influence your kite landings and groundwork.

The shape of the beach is also changing every 12 hours, the tide always plays with the sand.

Weather

What can we say about the weather…you cannot predict it. September can be the best month in the summer and sometimes it is an early start of the autumn. We can help you with an overview of the Scheveningen weather in September and with two very good weather forecast sites.
